Healthy Diet

Healthy eating is a foundation of healthy living with or even without diabetes. But if you are diabetic, you should know how foods can affect your blood glucose level. It is not about the kind of food but how much and what are the combinations of food you eat. Everybody should be acquainted how it is to be living with diabetes.
Here are some tips on how to maintain the proper level of blood sugar by the food we eat:

  •  Learn the carbohydrate counts and portion sizes. A basic one in terms of many diabetes management plans is to learn how to calculate the amount of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates usually are the foods that have the biggest effect on the level of blood sugar. For people who are having insulin during mealtime, it is important that you know how much carbohydrates are in your food, so you get the proper dose of insulin. Learn what the appropriate portion size for each food type. Make your meal plan simpler by writing the portions of food you usually eat.  Use a scale or measuring cups to make sure that you get the proper portion size and exact carbohydrate count.
  •   Make a well-balanced meal. Plan each meal to have a good combination of fruits, vegetables, fats, starches and protein. It is necessary that you give attention to the kinds of carbohydrates you take.  Some of the carbohydrates like vegetables, whole grains and fruits are better than the others. These foods have a little amount of carbohydrates and contain fiber that can help blood sugar to be more stable. Talk to a dietitian, doctor or nurse about the best selection of food and the proper balanced for all types.
  •   Organize meals and medications. Too little food proportioned to your medication particularly the insulin may lead to hypoglycemia. Too much food can result you to hyperglycemia. Consult your health care group how to make the best schedule of coordinate meals and medications.
  •  Avoid beverages with sweetened sugar. This includes those with high fructose or sucrose this tends to be with high calories and offers a little of nutrition. And because they can cause quick rise to blood sugar it would be great if you avoid these kinds of drinks.  The exclusion is if you’re experiencing a low level of blood sugar. These sugar sweetened drinks such as sports drinks, juice and soda can be an effective treatment for raising the low blood sugar quickly.

With diabetes, the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin to maintain the normal level of blood sugar. People who have Type 1 diabetes produce little insulin or none at all. Those with Type 2 continues to produce adequate or too much but the receptors of insulin on cells improve resistance, a condition that inhibits the body from using the glucose efficiently. Sugar remains to flow in the blood and build up. A diet with more vegetables and fruits and a little of food processed can fights the diabetes.
With all the facts about diabetes, we can be aware what can be the causes of it. People can also have and make the natural cure of diabetes by having the right food and proper diet and exercise.

800-Calorie-Day Diet to Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

Scientists are discovering a short period of crash diet which can reverse type 2 diabetes and restore the natural levels of insulin, offering a new hope to millions of people in the world who are suffering from diabetes. The scientists found out that putting overweight diabetics on 800 calories of diet everyday can clear the disease and get them back to health in just a few weeks.
According to reports, the procedures have been successfully tested to 11 patients but now it will be the focus of 2.4 million pound medical experiments by Diabetes UK which will involve 280 people with induced-obesity diabetes.  Researchers validated that by changing the intakes of calorie the fat levels in the pancreas and liver could also change and return the production of insulin to normal. The study is conducted to see whether the method can be used to reverse diabetes in the patients and whether if the reverse will stay. The evidence shows that it will but large scale experiments are still needed to prove that it really works.
Type 2 diabetes, not like type 1, is closely connected to obesity. It usually occurs when the body can not produce an adequate amount of insulin or the cells in the body do not respond to insulin, a hormone which is secreted by the pancreas that moves sugar from the blood to the cells where it will be used as energy.
With inadequate insulin, the blood glucose increases with a raft of hazardous side effects. These may include an abrupt increase in the risk of stroke and foot amputation, heart attack, blindness and dementia. Researchers already identify that people who experience a weight loss operation like gastric bypasses usually see their type 2 diabetes decrease but such cures are risky and seen considered to be the last option.
Scientist are careful and the study is still continuous but the evidence is increasing that diet can certainly take away the indications of type 2 diabetes. The problems for researchers who are working on finding what type of diet that can keep the reverse of diabetes. It is when people have already beaten the situation and improve their lifestyle.

Home Remedies for Diabetes

I came across this video that discusses 5 unique remedies to help control blood sugar levels naturally. Living with diabetes is an everyday struggle and I prefer natural cures for diabetes as apposed to medicine that most often makes me sick to my stomach.

The first remedy to lower blood sugar levels mentioned was bitter melon juice. She suggested to drink a glass every morning on an empty stomach and that you can add carrots for flavor. Sounds like it may taste awful.

The second remedy is Fenugreek seeds. It was suggested to soak the seeds in water and drink the mixer in the morning after brushing your teeth. It will be chewy.

The third remedy to try and lower blood sugar levels is Turmeric mixed in with milk. It was suggested to start off with 1 tsp and then work your way up to 1 tbs.

Last but not least, the forth remedy is cinnamon with Guava leaf powder. Mix the two in lukewarm water and drink in the morning on an empty stomach. These remedies to help reverse type 2 diabetes sound interesting enough to try. It was suggested that you could see results in as little as 15 days. Check out your local herbal shop if you have one or you can check out www.thediabetesdilemma. com to find very affordable natural herbs and supplement shops. Has anyone tried any of these remedies and if so what where your results? I would be very interested to hear your thoughts or opinions.

5 Weirdly Amazing Food Combinations You Must Try

I read an article the other day about 5 Weirdly Amazing Food Combinations You Must Try. When it comes to diabetes, what you eat is very important in managing diabetes. But, it isn’t always easy to come up with inventive and tasty snack and meal options that are actually filling and nutritious. Sometimes you need to get creative. Here are some ideas that were suggested.

Hummus, which is a dip made from chickpeas and sesame seed paste, is being used in combination with apples. This combination is rich in nutrients and fiber.

Another good combination that was suggested was combining carrots and peanut butter. This will slow down your digestion process so your blood sugars won’t rise as quickly. For an even healthier option you can drizzle some organic peanut, almond, or other nut butter alternative for a savory, sweet treat.

Sardines with tomatoes and capers are another healthy treat that was mentioned. Personally, I don’t know if I can try this. Sounds awful to me because I can’t get past the smell, but they say mixed between two slices of whole grain bread it gives you carbohydrate controlled lunch or dinner.

A pear and Low-fat Greek yogurt make for a tasty treat. This combination is packed with vitamin C, calcium and protein. Last but not least grapefruit and lettuce wraps. This creates a tart, salty combination rich in protein and low in saturated fat.
I have to say, the only combination I’ve heard of and tried is carrots and peanut butter. Has anyone else tried these combinations? I would love to hear how they taste. Or, maybe you have your own “ weird”
combination snack you would like to share.
