Can Milk Thistle be an Aid in Managing Diabetes?

Milk thistle shows as a defense against diabetes and other complications related to diabetes which includes damages to blood vessels and kidneys.  It is commonly used to maintain detox efforts and enhance liver health. Milk thistle is very rich in antioxidants or the natural elements identified to knock out the free radicals. In turn, most of the complication linked to diabetes are connected to oxidative anxiety, the procedure that which results to too much productions of free radicals. Milk thistle may not be a cure for diabetes but it can regulate and keep the level of blood glucose to normal. Most of the herbal supplements haven’t verified enough to distinguish if they are really effective. Some of them work and some don’t.  There is a lack of good evidence that can prove that they work. Sometimes natural substances doesn’t mean that it’s always safe.  Many people got this as a great mistake.  Herbs can be very perilous particularly when it is already combined with any pharmaceutical medicines by someone who doesn’t have any knowledge and understanding to the properties of medication and herbs.  Some herbs can be poisonous in certain situations. It is best to use herbs when it is recommended by a specialist familiar with the use and effects of it.  Milk thistle is safe for adults.
At times, milk thistle caused a laxative effect. There are common side effects which includes indigestion, nausea, intestinal gas, and diarrhea, loss of appetite, pain and bloating. Milk this can also cause allergic reaction to people delicate to plants in the family of Asteraceae including marigolds, ragweed, and daisies.
Milk thistle may help but there are still conditions that can inhibit you from taking it. The following could be the reason:
  •          You are breast feeding or pregnant.
  •          You are allergic or sensitive to the Compositae family.
  •       You have a sensitive hormone condition. Some of this includes uterine fibroids, endometriosis and cancers of the ovaries, breast and uterus.

Interactions during Medications

Certain medications are broken down and changed by the liver. Milk thistle might reduce how the liver quickly breaks down with some medications. The taking of milk thistle along with other medications that the liver broke down can increase the side effects and effects of some medicines.

Milk thistle improves the insulin resistance, the main characteristic to type 2 diabetes but still diabetes is still a serious condition so before you take any supplements consult to your health provider as this might interfere your medication.
